For this tutorial I’m going to use as an example of mining is the Ethereum, Since the last 2 topics that I posted was all about building a mining rig. But before we start lets have a quick background check on Ethereum and if its same to Bitcoin?
Ethereum is an open software platform based on blockchain technology that enables developers to build and deploy decentralized applications.
Like Bitcoin, Ethereum is a distributed public blockchain network. Although there are some significant technical differences between the two, the most important distinction to note is that Bitcoin and Ethereum differ substantially in purpose and capability. Bitcoin offers one particular application of blockchain technology, a peer to peer electronic cash system that enables online Bitcoin payments. While the Bitcoin blockchain is used to track ownership of digital currency (bitcoins), the Ethereum blockchain focuses on running the programming code of any decentralized application.
In the Ethereum blockchain, instead of mining for bitcoin, miners work to earn Ether, a type of crypto token that fuels the network. Beyond a tradeable cryptocurrency, Ether is also used by application developers to pay for transaction fees and services on the Ethereum network.
So now that you have a learned what is Ethereum let us proceed to the mining part.
For the operating system that I will use, I choose Windows platform as it is the world or here in the Philippines 90% uses this OS. Specifically Windows 10 updated to its latest version. I suppose you have the mining rig ready there, don’t plug the PCI risers to the motherboard as we starting to install the OS.
After installing the OS, give the necessary actions on it. Update to its latest version.
There are two kinds of Team in Gaming and Mining world, first is the Green Team the NVIDIA cards and the RED Team the AMD cards. Green team is stronger to the algos which you called Cryptonight tag such as ZEC, XMR, ETN, SUMO, KMD, KRB, BCN, and XDN. On the other side the Red team is stronger on Ethhash tag such as ETH (Ethereum), EXP, MUSIC, PIRL, and UBQ.
You need to know which team are your GPUs to have it installed. For the green team just go to NVIDIA website and have it installed to your windows 10. For the red team, you need to find the Blockhain driver for your AMD card. Click here to go to the blockchain driver for AMD cards or you can check this website Anorak.tech for the blockchain driver of your GPU, since it has many brand it has exclusive driver only for them you also find GPU flash for moding and lower the power draw of your GPU. Take note if you have GPUs that are the same install the driver once, no need to install it again.
Check again for another windows update.
To participate Ethereum token sale you need a wallet website or a wallet app where you and you only holds the private keys. Private keys are needed to correctly interact with smart contract functions, like transferring tokens.
The following wallets are known to be compatible with Ethereum tokens (ERC-20 standard):
MyEtherWallet (no download needed)
MetaMask (Firefox and Chrome browser addon)
Binance (Online wallet and Smartphone)
There are lots of mining software for ethereum like Minergate, Nicehash, Claymore, etc.. Takenote after you configure the miner batch file put it always on the Startup for everytime the rig restart it automatically runs.
There are Ethereum website have the instructions to do all this i’ll just give you the websites that I used.
Image above shows the config of your miner that is for Ethermine website.
If you are using Green team GPUs it’s okay to just use MSI afterburner 4.4.0 Beta 16, it’s more stable. But if you have Red team GPUs use the Trixx any version to undervolt and overclock the GPUs you have.
Whatever will do or use TeamViewer this is the most miners installed to their rig when they run the windows OS.
Mixing it up
Now you all have software and files, you need to configure the “Start.bat” or whatever batch file you will name for it. Much better if you watch the configuration on Youtube because it’s too hard to explained it to you guys (I’m tired of explaining LOL!).
So that’s it. Just look at my mining rig.
There you have it guys. Please leave a comment and share it to others.
